TLC was founded by Lori Laxton in 2007.  After receiving treatment for her meth addiction, Lori began a program that would enable her to “give back” to the community.  The premise of TLC is simple: Gather what others don’t need or are willing to part with and give to those who are in need.  Over the past couple of years, the program has grown, requiring the need for more space.  Recently, TLC has relocated in the Holmen Mall.

Although it sounds like a Goodwill program, TLC offers much more.  Bags of clothing and other necessities are sold at a bargain price of $5.00 to those in need.  (But I am told bags are sometimes given away.)  All children who come through the door receive a toy.  And all food is given away.  According to Lori, in 2008, over 7,000 pounds of food were handed out, and in 2009 that figure reached over 18,000 pounds.

The TLC Center operates completely on a voluntary basis.  Lori and all who work there do so as volunteers.  Some, such as Bev Mades, have been helping out almost as long as the program has been in place.  Students frequently donate time after school.  Currently, TLC receives absolutely no grants or funding other than what the community donates.  They do have a “treasure” section within the store where unique donated items are sold to help out with expenses.

Just this year (January 29th, 2010), Lori received an achievement award from HACCA (Holmen Area Civic and Commerce Association).  Congratulations Lori!  May you have many more years of continued success.

Ladies, let’s help her keep TLC going!
